MB Playoff Roundup – May 9

MB Playoffs – First Round

Only 2 days remain in the first round of the playoffs and just one matchup remains that is with 100 points.

Notes from the week so far:

  • Greg scored the most points from Monday-Wednesday with 152, gaining 16 on Doug and pulling back to within 48
  • The next smallest leads are Chris with a 140-point lead on JP and Ryan with a 152-point advantage over mxknkl
  • 140 points are available and another 24 are possible on Thursday
  • On Friday, Round 1 ends in wild style with 346 points available and another 164 point possible
  • A reminder that Round 2 will be more of a sprint as it lasts just 8 busy days from Saturday, May 11 through Sunday, May 18 (Round 3 also lasts only 8 days due to MegaMay)

Greg cuts the lead back to 48 as this fantastic matchup will likely come down to the end tomorrow night. There are too many picks in the next 2 days to fully handicap this race, but it will be one to follow throughout today and Friday.

Chris

JP

JP’s point accumulation has slowed to a crawl and it appears at this point that Chris will escape the first round challenge and head for a date with skizzow in Round 2. Chris actually has the 2nd lowest point total of any fully conscious human being (sorry, Bred). However, the lowest point total is that of JP. Like all of the bracket competitions we pick, the MB playoffs are all about matchups.

Ryan’s 2nd best Round 1 point total looks like it will be enough to subdue mxknkl and head into a 2nd round bloodbath / grudge match with Jimmy, a rematch of last year’s finals, won by Jimmy. There are still a lot of points available but 154 is a lot to make up in 2 days.

abittner is the first user to hit 1000 points in round 1 and holds a 206-points lead with 2 days left. With 486 points definitely available and another 188 possible, this matchup is not over although abittner holds a commanding lead. Like mxknkl, tonewil fought the good fight but will likely look to make hay in the consolation bracket.

Like with Bristol, the intensity will ratchet up for Danny in Round 2 as he likely has a date with abittner.

Notes from the weekend:

  • Chris put up the biggest point total of the weekend (440), turning a 68-point deficit into an 88-point lead over JP with 5 days to go
  • abittner was the only other user to top 400, adding 428 points and extending to a commanding 208-point edge over tonewil
  • Doug increased his advantage over Greg by 24 to 64, but the matchup is still to close to call
  • 0 points are available Monday and only 12 are possible on Tuesday
  • 4 NCAA championships begin on Wednesday raising the stakes – 142 points will be available and another 68 possible
